FALL GATHERING

The AVOYEL-TAENSA TRIBE/NATION OF LOUISIANA will have a FALL GATHERING on September 3, 2011 at the Woodmen of the World Building in Marksville, starting at 11:00 a.m. ADMISSION IS FREE. There will be BBQ Chicken and Pork plate lunches available at $7.00 each and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Festivities will include a silent auction and various raffles plus much more! BBQ CHICKEN AND PORK PLATE LUNCHES

On Sunday, July 17, 2011 our tribe will be selling BBQ chicken and pork plate lunches at our office address, 320-B Cottage Street in Marksville from 11 am to 1 pm. HOT DOG and BAKE SALE

On Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Our Office Location: 320 Cottage Street #B, Marksville LA from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be hot dogs, chili dogs, baked items and drinks for sale. A Raffle will be drawn for a chance to win one of THREE (3) GAS CARDS or a BBQ PIT.

Free Meal (pictures)

The Avoyel-Taensa Indian Tribe of Louisiana will be expressing their appreciation to the Avoyelles Parish Community and the Tribal Members for their support over the years by distributing a FREE MEAL on Saturday, February 12, 2011. It will be CARRYOUT ONLY. Anyone interested may come to pick up their meal at the office located at 320 Cottage St., #B, Marksville, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

FLU SHOTS

Chief Romes Antoine has advised that all Tribal Members get their flu shots this year. This will help with any health complications later in the year, if they should occur. Please go to the CVS Pharmacy in Marksville and ask for Charlene. The flu shot will be given to anyone over 18 years of age. The shot IS FREE If you have MEDICARE, or ANY other INSURANCE.

BBQ PORK AND CHICKEN PLATES

On Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 320 Cottage Street #B (our tribal office) will be selling plate lunches, from 11 a. m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $6.00 per plate and can be purchased in advance or at the door. Tribal Fall Gathering

On Saturday, September 4, 2010 @ 9am, Our Fall Gathering starts and will be held at the "Coshon de Lait" festival building in Mansura, LA. The Costs of Plate lunches for adults will be $6.00, plate lunches for kids $4.00. There will be activities for all family members, music in the evening and lots of other fun events. Cake Sale & Raffle

On Saturday July 24, 2010 we are having a bake sale to include candy, hot dogs, drinks and tribal t-shirts at Harvest Foods in Marksville from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Closing time may vary depending on availability of items left to sell. 

We are also going to raffle a $150.00 CERTIFICATE, good towards the purchase of SCHOOL UNIFORMS From Raymond’s Department Store in Marksville, LA. This is about enough to purchase 3-shirts and 3-skirts or pants. Raffle tickets are on sale at our office now and will also be available for sale at this event as well. Purchase prices as follows... 1 ticket for $2.00, or 3 tickets for $5.00. The drawing will be held on July 26, 2010 @ 10:00 am. We invite everyone to come out and support us. Also note that we are still selling tribal t-shirts at the office now as well. Please refer any questions you may have to our office @ (318) 240-8424.

AVOYEL-TAENSA INDIAN TRIBE HELPS CHILE Chile has suffered a catastrophic earthquake this past week and the Avoyel-Taensa Indian Tribe of Louisiana has donated to the relief effort through the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is once again asking for help in providing immediate support and services to victims of disasters such as in Chile. 

AVOYEL-TAENSA INDIAN TRIBE HELPS HAITI The Avoyel-Taensa Indian Tribe of Louisiana has donated to the earthquake relief effort in Haiti through the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross provides much needed support and services to communities around the globe and any gifts they receive will make a difference in continuing their effort.

Marksville State Historic Site offers pottery programon Saturday, February 6 2010 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Marksville State Historic Site, located at 837 Martin Luther King Drive, Marksville, LA 71351 will host a beginner pottery program.  Participants will learn the coil method of pottery used by the early Marksville people to make larger clay vessels.  Glenn Rechs, potter and professional artist, will discuss how the pottery of Marksville has affected his own work.  The program is interactive and participants will be given the opportunity to get their hands dirty.  Pre-registration is recommended.  Admission is $2 per person ages 13 to 61 and free to all others. Both members and non-members alike are encouraged to come out and have a good time. This event will be at the VFW#3841 a.k.a. the old "Y-club" in Mansura, Louisiana... Featuring DJ Ron-D.
